The head of the University Nephrology Research Center, in another part of his speech, referring to the prevalence of kidney diseases in Iran, said: "Chronic kidney disease is one of the most common diseases, affecting about 10 to 15% of the population." About 90% of people are unaware of their illness.
Emphasizing the role of the university in raising public awareness, Dr. Getmiri said: "In the first step, the community should be sensitive to the diagnosis of this disease, and it is the responsibility of the university to raise this awareness at the community level so that cases of chronic kidney disease can be diagnosed sooner."
He considered diabetes and blood pressure as two important factors in causing chronic kidney diseases and said: "This is while blood pressure is also known as a hidden disease, so people who are not aware of their disease should be aware and sensitive to their disease."
Dr. Getmiri considered the interaction of the media with the university to be effective in increasing public awareness and said: "I hope with the help of the media we will be on the path to be sensitive to the two high risk factors of diabetes and blood pressure, which are the most important causes of death and disability."
