Thanks to the services of this benevolent Lahijan doctor, the bust of Professor Dr. Mohammad Sadegh Pirooz will soon be unveiled by the order of the President of Guilan University of Medical Sciences in the Pirooz Lahijan Hospital during a ceremony attended by officials.
The 100th birthday of Dr. Mohammad Sadegh Pirooz and the seventy years of his service were commemorated on Thursday, May 20, 2022 by the Lahijan and Siahkal Medical System Organizations in collaboration with the Municipality, Islamic City Council, Guilan University of Medical Sciences and Ophthalmology Association in Alireza Varasteh Hall. .
Among his public works and valuable services, we can mention the donation of more than 18,600 square meters of land for the construction of a hospital, a clinic, a school, an apartment for a nursing home for the disabled and the elderly in Lahijan, and so on.
Excerpts from the biography of Dr. Mohammad Sadegh Pirooz
Dr. Mohammad Sadegh Pirooz was born on June 5, 1923 in Lahijan. He entered Tehran Medical School in 1940 as a student. In 1945, he finished his general medicine course and started working in medicine. In 1951, he became the first person to take the ophthalmology residency exam and passed this course under the supervision of Professor Mohammad Gholi Shams. From 1957, he continued his work as a faculty member with the position of the head of the clinic in Farabi Hospital, and during his activity, he was twice elected as the director of the ophthalmology department of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He was the secretary of the University of Tehran for 10 years from October 5, 1978, and from November 19, 1958 until his retirement, he was the secretary of the board of examiners and evaluators of the national ophthalmology field. He was also a member of the British Ophthalmological Association and the French Ophthalmological Association and retired on May 1, 1967, after 36 years, 8 months and 21 days of scientific and educational work at the University of Tehran and Farabi Hospital. He played an important role in the development of Farabi Hospital.
