Achieving one hundred score of national polio laboratory by Health school in molecular tests in 2021 of the world Health organisation
National portfolio laboratory of Health school of TUMS achieved one hundred percent score in molecular tests of 2021.
The National Paediatric Laboratory in the faculty, headed by Dr. Shohreh Shah Mahmoudi in previous years, was able to obtain 100% points in the 2021 molecular tests.
She explained that the World Health Organization sends Proficiency Tests to the polio laboratory several times a year to check the accuracy of the various steps of the laboratory. These tests include cell culture and isolation of the polio virus from the patient's sample, as well as molecular tests to determine the type and strain of the polio virus, and screening of vaccine-derived polio virus by Real Time PCR.
Unknown samples of these tests are sent from the Dutch RIVM (for cell culture and virus isolation) and the US CDC (for molecular tests) to all polio laboratories around the world. The score of these exams is very important in obtaining the annual accreditation of Polio Laboratory (Accreditation).
The National Paediatric Laboratory scored 100 percent on the 2021 Molecular Tests submitted by the US CDC.
This honour is the result of the hard work of the colleagues of the Polio Molecular Laboratory of the School of Health, especially Dr. Amir Nejati.
