In the sixth seminar on professional commitment in health services, which was held on 26 and 27 January 2023 in Ibn Sina Hall of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Shahin Akhundzadeh, the head of Rozbeh Hospital and in charge of the second panel of the seminar on professional commitment in the health system, expressed a memory of the late professor Dr. Muslim Bahadri, The former head of the Alumni Office said: For many years, I was a student in the presence of Prof. Bahadri in the Academy of Medical Sciences in the

ite his old age, he was very accurate and a unique human being. For example, we were discussing an article six months ago and we reached the same conclusion, but we had all forgotten the contents, and Professor Bahadri discussed the discussions word by word. He was repeating the meeting of six months ago. When I was reading professor Bahadri's book (in addition to being in the teacher's presence for 20 years), I saw outstanding characteristics of him. He was a benevolent person for everyone.

He went on to say: "Today, our discussion is about professionalism and immigration, and I want to talk about it from three perspectives." The discussion of governance requirements is a problem that we are facing today and we must look at it realistically and try to solve this problem instead of hiding it. Our policies in these decades have been to simplify and ignore the issue, and no solution has been found, and gradually this problem has become more acute.

Dr. Akhundzadeh added: We have to see what we should have done in these 44 years but we didn't. I believe that financial issues did not play a big role in emigrating, in the generation of Dr. Alami Harandi, when they came to Iran in the 40s, they had one of the lowest incomes in the world compared to their doctor and surgeon colleagues. University professors and doctors received low salaries compared to the average salaries in Iran. But out of ten people like Dr. Alami Harandi (both those who received scholarships and those who went with their own expenses), 9 people returned. Although the salary was small and the facilities were limited.

He continued: In 2005, Dr. Malek Afzali entrusted me with a research mission on elite migration. In that research, which I gave in writing to the Ministry of Health and which is one of the important documents of the Ministry of Health, I interviewed one hundred and fifty university researchers in various fields and positions, and contrary to what was thought, it was determined that the first reasons for emigration are not due to financial issues. This result was a surprise for the research assistant of the Ministry of Health. This result showed that 60% of the first 100 national entrance exam students who come to Tehran Medical School leave Iran after three years. Of course, only the first hundred people, not the entire medical community, nor other ranks, only about the first hundred people.

He called the lack of management stability as one of the most important reasons for the migration of elites and added: In my research, economic issues had the third place. Until five years ago, the surgical income in Iran was 5 times that of other countries, especially in the private sector. Of course, social issues are not ineffective in migration, and whenever there is a crisis, migration happens, and we have to accept that part of it is caused by the academic staff. I always like to treat my students the way I treat my daughter at home. When I suffer from the problems that arise, I tell my daughter the positive parts of it at home because I want to attract her and not push her towards the problems.

He continued: I feel it necessary to share something from the late professor Yalda. He said that a professor who always creates distance for a student is a miserable person. A good teacher is a teacher who should let the student go ahead and be happy and encourage him. In this way, it is better to eliminate factional and political atmosphere in universities. Our universities should not change with the changes of the government and the president. This is a mistake that we frequently make in different governments. Changing this atmosphere is the responsibility of us teachers, otherwise we will lose the country's children. Of course, part of it is also the responsibility of the government. As professors, we must report the problems to the authorities, which will definitely have an impact.
