Review of the efforts of the new head of the Alumni Office in establishing and promoting this office
With the appointment of Dr. Seyed Mansour Getmiri as the head of the Alumni Office, we review the most important activities of this office since its establishment.
In the second half of 2005, after the appointment of Dr. Seyed Mansour Getmiri as the Public Relations Manager of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, one of his most important missions was to set up an Alumni Office (ALUMNI) at the university. Due to the limited activities in the country in the form of alumni office in places such as the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tehran and Sharif University and some high schools such as Alborz High School and Alavi High School, more studies were needed to set up this office. Dr. Getmiri studied international models in the major universities of the world and presented his report in the structure of the alumni Office of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in a meeting dated 2005 February then board of the university, which after reviews and exchange of views Approved by the Board. This structure was approved in the first meeting of the University Council in 2005 and then in the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University on 2006 and the University Alumni Office started operating as an independent office with 8 organizational positions and directly under the supervision of the University President. At the same time, Dr. Moslem Bahadori, one of the leading professors of the university, who had a brilliant record in the field of communication with the university graduates, was appointed as the head of this office by the then dean of the university, and Dr. Getmiri was appointed as the secretary. The collaboration of Dr. Getmiri, who was one of the entrants of the medical school in 1982 and has also completed his internal medicine and subspecialty nephrology course at the Tehran university, dates back to the early years of entering the medical school and the establishment of alumni office It was more cooperation and support.
One of the most important programs that was emphasized at the beginning of this office was the establishment of communication between graduates and the university and the creation of common scientific and social cooperation, and for this communication it was necessary to access the graduates' database. This list and the launch of the office site were provided to acquaint the graduates with the activities of the Alumni Office, as well as to complete the information of the graduates, first on the public relations site and then as an independent site. Since all university graduates have spent or will spend their studies in one of the university faculties, so with the policy of Professor Bahadori and the management of Dr. Getmiri, several meetings were held with the heads of the faculties and finally, like the central office model, alumni offices The faculties also started with the cooperation of a veteran professor as the president and a young faculty member as the expert of this office. This activity was in the form of cooperation with the central office and in accordance with the policies of the faculty for policy-making and implementation of important programs of the Alumni Office. These members are both the representative of the office in the faculty and the representative of the faculty in this office, and this relationship and cooperation continues by participating in the monthly face-to-face and virtual meetings of this office.
Shortly after the approval of the establishment of the Alumni Office and informing the former alumni of the university in the summer of 2006, the first alumni meeting was held for the entrances of 78, 79, 80 and 82 and 83, which was welcomed.
Since then, holding alumni gatherings has become one of the important activities of this office. So far, hundreds of gatherings have been held for different groups of medical, pharmaceutical, dental, nursing and midwifery, paramedical, rehabilitation and ....
Prior to the establishment of the Alumni Office, students' graduation ceremonies were held in a limited way and sometimes outside the university. Then in 2012, it was done in an integrated manner. The first integrated celebration of university graduates was held in a situation where more than 2,500 graduates from all faculties and in all courses and sections participated in it, in accordance with the models of the world's major universities, along with introducing the university's successful achievements in an exhibition and with the present of Minister of Health and Medical Education, the President of the University, the deans and professors of the faculties and the participating graduates took the oath in front of a crowd of over 8,000 people. This big event, which took place for the first time in the country and at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, especially when the parents were also invited, attracted the attention of the media and had a great impact in the country. This issue caused other universities, both at the level of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science, to refer to this office to hold similar ceremonies and consult with Professor Bahadori and other members of this office, especially Dr. Getmiri. Fortunately, this office has 7 successful integrated celebrations in its record, which were not held due to the outbreak of Corona virus in recent years, and due to the control of this disease in the country, holding this ceremony is included in the 1401 program of the Alumni Office. .
One of the important achievements of the university graduates was to hold a scientific and educational program and share scientific and therapeutic experiences. At the end of this congress, a number of top scientists in basic and clinical sciences received the Yalda Scientific Foundation Award. Holding a scientific seminar on professional commitment in the health system is another scientific program of this office, which was formed based on the personality of Professor Bahadori, who is a practical model of professional commitment, and has held 5 seminars so far.
From the beginning of the establishment of the Alumni Office, Professor Bahadori emphasized on attracting financial support from graduates to support students and the university, and this issue led Dr. Getmiri and other professors in this office to establish a public institution to attract this support. Fortunately, the Professor Bahadori Scientific and Cultural Foundation was established and great strides have been made by this foundation and the Alumni Office provide part of the needs of the student dormitory, including carpets and closets as well as cash donations.
In all the meetings held in the Alumni Office, Professor Bahadori emphasized the role of professors, especially veteran professors in promoting and advancing the goals of the university and valued their presence in the university and the benefit of their opinions and ideas, which fortunately This issue took place in the form of establishing a professor's house in the university's affiliated hospitals, and several meetings were held in hospitals and their valuable services were appreciated, which is a good tradition even when professors retired, retired professors know that by attending the professor's house they can still consider as members of the large family of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
Another of Professor Bahadori's recommendations was to strengthen the relationship between graduates who worked outside the university or the country. So far, provincial offices in Mazandaran, Zanjan, West Azerbaijan, Kerman, Yazd provinces have been established and several meetings have been held with the presence of Professor Bahadori and other colleagues of the central office and faculty offices and also with introducing programs and policies of Tehran University of Medical Sciences it will maintain communication. The medical veterans of the provinces have also been honoured with their graduates and holding joint programs. Although the development of provincial offices has been halted for some time due to the outbreak of corona disease, one of the most important programs of this office in the future is to strengthen relations with provincial graduates and establish representative offices in other provinces. The establishment of the first international branch of the Alumni Office goes back to Dr. Getmiri's scientific connection with Professor Rosival and former President of the University of Semelweiz in Hungary, who also received the title of Honorary Professor of the University, which paved the way for his meeting with Professor Bahadori. In the first meeting, the proposal to establish an international branch of the Alumni Office in Europe in Budapest was presented in collaboration with Professor Rosival and Dr. Mirza Hosseini, a graduate of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The International Branch of the Alumni Office in Europe was opened in Budapest at the Ave-senna Scientific Institute and the first gathering of European alumni was held in Hungary at the same time as the 4th Usern Congress in 2019 with the presence of Professor Bahadori, Dr. Getmiri, Dr. Jafarian, Dr. Razmapa and a group of other university professors were held in Budapest. Due to the large number of university graduates around the world and the meetings held by Professor Bahadori's students who work outside Iran, steps have been taken to establish international branches of this office in California, Washington, Canada, Switzerland in collaboration with Dr. Getmiri and Dr. Razmpa. It is hoped that effective steps will be taken with reducing the incidence of corona disease around worldwide , Possible steps have been taken in this regard.
With the death of Professor Bahadori, who left the university and his friends in disbelief on May 1, 2022, by Dr. Hossein Qanati, the president of the university, appointed Dr. Seyed Mansour Getmiri, as head of alumni office who has worked hard since the establishment of this office. It is hoped that this office, with the new management of Dr. Getmiri as well as cooperation of all colleagues in the alumni offices of the affiliated colleges and hospitals, will be able to keep the bright light that Professor Bahadori lit to guide the alumni.
